Melbourne Festival 17th and 18th September 2011

After a successful weekend at Wirksworth Festival, we will be moving our exhibition of current and past projects to Melbourne. Our display will be in 56 Potter Street - a contemporary extension we designed to a thatched cottage. We will be there from 10-5 on Saturday and Sunday - hope to see you there!

Wirksworth Festival 10th-11th September 2011

We'll be exhibiting a selection of our work, past and present at our offices this weekend, as part of The Wirksworth Festival. The Wirksworth Festival is a fantastic event where local residents and businesses open up their doors and let artists (and architects!) exhibit their work. Pop in from 10 - 5. Barn Remodelling near Ashbourne

New stairs have been fitted to the remodelling of a Barn Conversion. The painters are on site this week, so more up to date pictures in a couple of weeks. The extension is also coming along, (see last post), new roof starts this week!

Barn Extension - Progressing Well

An extension and internal alterations to a Barn in Ashbourne are a few months from completion. The patent glazing was fitted last week and we can not wait to see the natural light this gives to the internal entrance space.

Dunkirk Playground, Nottingham

We went to the official opening of a playground we designed in Dunkirk, Nottingham. Plants will continue to grow over the the steel structure to create a big green tunnel, creating a natural environment for children to play, taking the emphasis away from the noise and pollution of the Nottingham flyover which runs over the school grounds. The children and staff are really enjoying their exciting new playground which they use throughout the day and evening for learning and play.

Sun Room Extension

The sedum roof was fitted last week and the screens have arrived this week. The large opening takes in the views over Crich, Derbyshire. The Sunroom is almost complete and it has only been on site for 12 weeks!

New Sunroom Extension

A sunroom extension in Crich is nearly complete. The new Sedum roof was fitted last week and the glass screens are due to arrive this week. We are pleased with the progress.

Hornscroft Park Bowling Green, Bolsover, Derbyshire

We were recently one of 3 practices asked to submit design porposals to restore Hornscroft Park Bowling Green. Our design, in collaboration with Landscape Artist Mary Wardle was selected as the winning entry. The historic, but currently derelict, space will be reconfigured within the original footprint to create a new community space in the park for all number of uses from family picnics to professional touring dance, theatre and music events. SureStart 'The Big Building,' in Derby is 10years Old!!

Our award winning SureStart Centre, recently voted one of the 50 best buildings in the East Midlands built in the last 50 years, celebrated its 10th anniversary with a party last weekend.

Rosliston Forestry Centre Welcome a New Addition

'Herbie' is almost practically complete. Rosliston Forestry Centre has seen the addition of a new Herb shaped man!!! Grand opening to be mid July. Works have been carried out by Redwelly.

Opening of New Garden at Walbrook Nursery, Derby

The Garden creates a series of activity spaces taking the National Curriculum as a generator. There are areas for digging and planting, quiet reading, water play and construction as well as areas for free play. The garden also serves as a gathering space for occasions such as the opening!

Affordable, Sustainable Homes in Youlgrave

We have successfully obtained planning permission for 8 sustainable, affordable homes in Youlgrave, Derbyshire. The proposal received a unanimous yes vote at planning committee, and was described by one of the committee members as 'the best housing scheme she had seen'. We have worked closely with Ian Ward, a renowned energy consultant to ensure our proposals are capable of reaching Code Level 6, which is the highest level of the 'Code for Sustainable Homes'. This will be a landmark scheme, and the first Code 6 housing scheme in the National Park.

New Home within a Garage Workshop

We have recently completed work to an old garage workshop in Tansley. The garage is now a beautiful 5 bedroom open plan home for our clients. The exterior has undergone repair works, and new windows. The roof is a standing seam metal insulated roof by Corus. The home also benefits from an air source heat pump.

Wirksworth & Melbourne Festivals

Our office will be open for the weekend of the 11th & 12th September for the Art & Architecture Trail, a part of the Wirksworth Festival.
We will also be exhibiting our work at Melbourne Festival on September 18th & 19th in a house which we designed.
We will be showing drawings and photographs of our work completed in the last year, along with projects still at the design stage. If you have not visited either of the Festivals in the past, they are well worth a visit with a huge variety of Artists displaying their work throughout the towns.

50/50 Exhibition

Our Derby Surestart building has been chosen as one of the best 50 buildings built in the East Midlands in the last 50 years. There is an exhibition to mark the publication of a book illustrating all 50 buildings which will visit Wirksworth Festival for 2 weeks starting Monday 13th September. Glazed atrium erected at new house in Holymoorside

Scaffolding has been taken down at our new house project in Holymoorside. As you can see the roof is complete with glass pyramid and the lead covered glazed atrium has been constructed & installed with a high level of craftmanship. Work has moved indoors temporarily before the render and cladding is applied to the external walls and the windows are installed. To find out more see the "houses" section of our portfolio.

Garage conversion in Tansley gets new roof covering!

Our garage conversion project in Tansley is almost fully covered in the specified "bottle green" coloured, standing seam metal roof and moves towards a completion date of June 2010. See the restoration section of our portfolio for more information.

We have been shortlisted for 2 Civic Trust Awards!

Our restoration of an old coach house, and our new house in Unstone are both up for a Civic Trust Award. We are particularly happy as only four projects have been shortlisted in Derbyshire, and two of these are ours.

New Windows for the Grade II Listed Barn

The Barn is finally having new windows installed, to seal it up before the winter months. The internal space is stating to feel more like a home and we are getting excited with its progress.

The internal fittings are currently being chosen with the client.

The House Roof is Removed!

The roof is finally removed and good weather has been predicted!! The restoration of the house is progressing well and we have discovered many interesting features, such as hidden cupboards and old chimneys. Conversion of a Listed Barn has Started on Site

Work on the conversion of a Listed Barn in Derbyshire into a 3 bedroom home is making quick progress. As you can see from the photograph there is alot of work to be done before the barn is complete. However the work started 4 weeks ago and it is already starting to take shape, (click on photograph to enlarge).

Wirksworth Festival and Melbourne Festival 12th and 13th September

Our refurbishment of and extension to a Grade II listed coach house is now complete. These photographs show the new principle staircase that was designed by us to provide access to all 3 storeys of the existing building.
