Our clients own a Grade 2 Listed thatched cottage with a small rear garden. Planning Consent was obtained by others for a substantially glazed extension to create additional living space.
When our clients purchased the property the original design could not be implemented due to changes in the Building Regulations.
We have re-interpreted the original design through the introduction of untreated natural cedar. This retains the elements of the previous scheme whilst reducing cost and increasing an energy efficiency.
A simple galvanized steel frame running the full height of the building creates an entrance porch over the doors to the garden, and a small balcony on which to grow plants from the bedroom. More importantly this structure will support south facing solar panels which will be used to power the new hot water supply to the bathroom and the extension.
