A new house completed in 2000 in the historic Conservation Area of Wirksworth. Many of the features are designed to minimise energy consumption. Solar panels on the roof supply the house with 50-70% of its hot water requirements. A tank has been fitted underground to filter and recycle water.
Natural light was an important factor in the design and the south facing elevation is highly glazed to maximise solar gain. Openings in the north wall are kept to a minimum to reduce heat loss. The house is constructed largely from sustainable materials, a mix of timber with limestone and cedar cladding.
