We have recently completed a SureStart centre in the Rosehill area of Derby. The new building purposely wraps itself around the site, generating a form that is deceptively shallow in plan. This allows a simple structure without the need for internal columns and also enables natural light and ventilation. Equally important, it means that almost the entire building has a view into the garden through a double height conservatory.
The form of the building, its height and width are all similar to the existing buildings nearby, thus preserving the urban grain of the area. The project was voted Derby’s best recent regeneration project under £10 million. Since completion the project has won an RIBA Award for design and sustainable initiative.
