This beautiful turn of the century villa was purchased by the British Council as their Headquarters Building. It was in a sorry state when we first visited, and needed urgent work to meet local earthquake and fire safety codes.

In addition to resolving these major problems, more space was required. A central reinforced concrete staircase and lift helped us meet Romania's strict fire and earthquake codes, whilst leaving the proportioned principle rooms intact. The new lift and stairs made the building accesible and allowed the use of the attic to provide the extra floor space needed. The project received a National award in Romania from the 'Uniunea Nationala a Retauratorillor de Monumente Istorice'.
There is more information on this project in the Public and Commercial section of our portfolio.
