This huge traditional Peak District barn was last used as a cow shed and was in very unstable condition. The fabric of the building was carefully repaired in sections, avioiding the need for demolition.

Having consolidated the structure, new roof trusses were inserted and the building made watertight and habitable. The spectacular interim volume was left substantially open to create a large workshop space for making sculpture, and as a social space. A mezzanine floor was added which links the barn the the Farm House and provides guest accommodation in the form of an annex.
