Our clients wanted to cover an existing pool set in a walled garden. The wall itself was listed as was the main house. We saw the building as something which needed to relate in scale and setting to the wall and garden rather than the house. Hence the building has been designed to include large areas of plain brickwork using salvaged bricks to match the garden wall.

Glazed elements within the wall are kept simple with stained, varnished hardwood frames recessed behind the wall line. The roof structure is continued over glazed areas and is heavily planted.

The building appears as either a garden wall or a pergola depending on the vantage point from which it is viewed.
